Old Fashioned Movie DVD Review

A romantic-drama, OLD FASHIONED centers on Clay Walsh, a former frat boy who gives up his reckless carousing and now runs an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town. There, he has become notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance as well as for his devout belief in God. When Amber Hewson, a free-spirited young woman with a restless soul, drifts into the area and rents the apartment above his shop, she finds herself surprisingly drawn to his strong faith and noble ideas, which are new and intriguing to her. And Clay, though he tries to fight and deny it, simply cannot resist being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life. Ultimately, Clay must step out from behind his relational theories and Amber must overcome her own fears and deep wounds as the two of them, together, attempt the impossible: an "old-fashioned" and God-honoring courtship in contemporary America. The movie is 115 minutes and is rated PG-13.

I was so excited to be able to watch this movie with my 16 year old daughter. We haven't watched a movie together in a really long time, because there aren't very good movies available to watch. This movie was great! We enjoyed it and she learned about some of the characteristics to look for in a good Christian husband and how a real relationship with God as the foundation, should look.

Since the DVD is released tomorrow, June 16, 2015, I don't want to give too much away, but I do want to tell you about some of our favorite parts. The first thing we liked is that Clay made a promise to never be alone in a room with someone who is not his wife. There are several cute scenes in the movie about this. We liked that promise because it's very sweet and a great way to avoid temptation.

The second thing we liked is that Clay says it's his job to become the right person for the marriage. So many times we think we are perfect, and it's the other person that needs to change; but like Clay says, that's really the opposite.

The third thing we liked is that Clay has dinner with his aunt and often talks with her. She is really a sweet lady and always makes us smile and laugh. She also has some very insightful advice.

There is a fourth thing we really liked that has to do with temptation, but you will just have to wait and see the movie yourself!
